2002 - It's A Wrap

  DARBCI

On Thursday afternoon we headed out to the Dole Philippines pineapple plantations.  Here we are standing in one of the endless pineapple fields around Mount Matutum near Polomolok.

That evening we went with Jennifer's mom to DARBCI, where she holds a prayer meeting every Thursday night for the people of the area.  This is a huge, 40 hectare field with small huts like these scattered around it.

All the dark brown "earth" you see in the pictures is actually pineapple waste that the Dole Philippines company has dumped around these peoples' homes.  There is an ongoing dispute between the people, who say they have ownership of the property by a declaration of former president Aquino, and Dole Philippines who has actually built a concrete wall around it and dumps their waste there day and night.

I was really intrigued by this little hut.  It's one of the nicest in the area!  Very neat and tidy all around.
