  On To General Santos City!

On Tuesday, June 4, 2002, we flew to General Santos City where Jennifer's mom had arranged for a hotel room for me. These two pictures were taken there by my bodyguard and driver, Paquito Macion.

I could be mistaken, but I think this was also the last time I actually saw the inside of my hotel room. I was so completely worn out after traveling for just over 25 hours to get to Manila, and then sleeping very little in Manila, that I fell asleep in the Provido home on my first night in GenSan. The next day, Jen's mom graciously offered to let me stay in their home for the duration of my visit! I will always be thankful for that offer, as it gave me the opportunity to get to know the whole family so much better than would have been possible if I had gone to the hotel every night alone.

I have since found out that the reason Jen's mom wanted to arrange a hotel room for me was the fact that she was concerned I would not like their home, with no A/C and no hot water for bathing. What? Are you kidding me?! There is certainly no one like my sweet Jennifer over at the hotel. And, for sure, there will be no cooking like home cooking anywhere!

Below is a picture of the two of us at the gate to the family compound on Rosas Street. On the day I arrived in town, I was looking down when I entered the gate - you know, to be sure I didn't trip on that girder at the bottom there. Well, you guessed it...  I hit my head on the crossbar at the top! It was the first time I saw a display of Jennifer's caring Filipina way in such an event, hehe. I loved the attention!
