Since Jennifer found out about the Filipino store "around the corner" in Sunrise, our groceries have taken on a completely different look.

Our fish now comes in little bags, and is almost all dried in the Philippines before it gets shipped to our friendly little neighborhood store.  And the meals?  Well, have a look...

Bulad and Sap Sap BBQ (the little ones). Each piece of fish is about the thickness  of a slice of breakfast bacon.  And it's just as crispy, too!  YUM!!!

Bulad and fried chicken, with a bowl of escabeche made with fresh red snapper from the local supermarket.

As thanks for her Valentine's Day gift, I got bulinao (served on the Red Plate!), along with a bowl of escabeche!  For the curious among you, I'll offer the following cross reference.

Bulad - dried sole (my favorite)

Sap Sap - hehe, we're not sure yet

Bulinao - dried anchovies

Escabeche - fish soup, this time made with red snapper*

*If you look closely at the bottom picture, you'll see that my "You Are Special" meal included a bowl of escabeche made with a fresh Red Snapper head!  It's gaping at you right there from the front of the bowl.
